MAHGIC: a Model Adapter for the Halo–Galaxy Inter-Connection

ABSTRACT We develop a model to establish the interconnection between galaxies and their dark matter haloes. use Principal Component Analysis (PCA) reduce dimensionality of both mass assembly histories haloes/subhaloes star formation galaxies, Gradient Boosted Decision Trees (GBDT) transform halo/subhalo properties into galaxy properties. two sets hydrodynamic simulations motivate our architecture train transformation. then apply trained models dark-matter-only (DMO) show that transformation is reliable statistically accurate. The by high-resolution simulation, or set such implementing same physics formation, can thus be applied large DMO make ‘mock’ copies simulation. flexible interpretable, which paves way for future applications in we will constrain using observations at different redshifts simultaneously explore how form evolve haloes empirically.
